Work with us

By Alexandra Reid

Dave Fleet, Vice President of Digital at Edelman’s Toronto office, and I sat down after his Social Media Breakfast Ottawa presentation to discuss some of the top social media trends that business can expect to come to fruition in 2011. Among the top trends discussed in this video are influence, content curation, search engine optimization, privacy and the importance of having a crisis communications plan. The discussion also offers important information for government workers and communicators who are working with their organizations to implement social media strategies.

Great job of covering lots of points in the 12min video. Many examples and good practice info in here. Excellent advice from Dave especially around Privacy and Disclosure, a delicate area. Loved the suggestions for countering brand-fatigue – thanks for expanding on my question from the session – timely, useful brand messages are an awful lot less annoying than self-promotional posts but the mindset shift to go from brand-centred to user-centred posts seem to be challenging for some. I dream of a way to filter page posts from my Facebook Newsfeed – instead I just don’t bother to ‘Like’ much so my stream is cleaner.

I’m so thrilled you enjoyed the piece Treena. Like Dave, I tried to squeeze in as much information into a tight time slot as possible. Privacy is indeed a sensitive subject, and one that has been receiving a lot of attention recently. It’s good that we have professionals, such as Dave, speaking on the subject to explain its importance to other professionals. I’m not a huge fan of the new Facebook wall either, but I simply can’t resist that darn “Like” button 🙂
